Shore House

After many years of planning, this stunning and compact home was completed in the summer of 2023 on a waterfront site on the Great South Bay of Long Island, New York.  The home was designed with floor to ceiling sliding glass doors and windows to take maximum advantage of views from the stunning site.  The flood resistant, raised house sits on a bed of pea gravel and further landscaping was thoughtfully conceived with native beach grasses along the water and a beautiful allée of honey locust trees on the street side.

The house is divided into two equal rectangles connected by a center foyer with open-tread white oak stairs.  The public activity takes place in the living wing which includes a sitting area with identical sofas face to face, a dining area and a wall of cabinetry which includes a Kitchen and Wet Bar.  A double-sided glass free-standing fireplace further organizes the space and divides the dining area from the sitting space.  A drop-down TV, installed in the peaked soffit area maximizes space.  The private wing of the house includes a primary suite with a steam shower and tub room as well as a bedroom, a study and guest bath.

Materials used include custom-cut travertine floors tiles throughout with radiant floor heating.  Lacquered wood cabinetry beautifully reflect the water.  Raked Jerusalem limestone bathroom walls and Brazilian Quartzite counters in the Kitchen and vanities contribute to the neutral color palette.  A smart home system from Lutron raises and lowers shades and also controls a state of the art lighting system.
